Likas Kayang Pag-unlad

Introduction:

Hi, my name is Airin Defensor. I am 8 years old. And I am from the Philippines. I have lived in Malaysia for 3 years. I am in grade 4 at Melaka International School (MIS). And I love doing arts and crafts. I have discovered my passion in calligraphy when I was 6 years old. I have made many artworks with calligraphy included. For this contest, my theme is Sustainability in Development. It is important that as we modernize our way of living that we always consider the protection of the environment for the future generations. In the Philippines, there is a script called Baybayin. It is a type of script that is based on syllables instead of letters. I wrote sustainbility in Tagalog - "Likas Kayang Pag-unlad" and i chose this script to pay homage to my country and my culture. In my artwork I used the colors, blue - to signify peans. It means living peacefully and harmoniously with the environment; red - means bravery. It is us moving towards modernizing and innovating our technologies; The bright yellow background signifies the bright future for the children that will inherit the Earth.
