(3) Introduction

“Urban Landscape and Architecture” Competition of “2019 Global Additive Manufacturing Application Innovation Competition” aims to tap into 3D printing’s innovations and market applications in urban landscape and architecture. The organizing party cooperates with Zoina Land and 3D printing technical solution providers. With Changle Town as the practice base, we hope to collect urban furniture 3D printing solutions that adopt original design plans and use3D printing materials and techniques. The urban furniture includes but is not limited to sculptures, building structures, interactive installations and rest chairs. The entries should demonstrate concepts of technology, intelligence, environment-friendly and sharing; thus, lay a solid foundation for high quality urban living conditions that both meet social needs and feature interaction and culture.

(4) Background of Zoina Land ’s Zhang Qian Hometown Project

Zoina Land ’s Zhang Qian Hometown Project is located in Changle Town, Haimen City, which is called the “Port of Seas and Rivers”. Zhongnan Group cooperated with the government of Changle Town to “carry out the fabulous work of ancient talents and to pioneer the road for our next generations”. We integrate various resources including ecological fields, cultures of famous people, sandy land, seas and rivers, as well as the distinctive industries of Changle Town. We hope to promote the development of culture, tourism, industries and business here and build it into a great town with diversified industries including cultural tourism, research and education, industrial tourism, leisure agriculture and accommodation for tourists.

(5) Eight application scenarios for Urban Furniture 3D Printing in the Zoina Land’s Zhang Qian Hometown Project

(6) Objectives of the competition

Contestants can choose one of the eight application scenarios listed above to design customized and personalized urban furniture. They need to adopt additive manufacturing concepts through three-dimensional digital design, topology optimization design, as well as choosing 3D printing materials and technologies.(3D design and manufacturing for one specific application scenario)

They can also choose a motif and design a series of urban furniture themed on the motif (these pieces of urban furniture can be extended or combined together). This series of urban furniture can be applied in several of the above-mentioned scenarios. (3D design and manufacturing of a series of urban furniture for multiple application scenarios)

We hope the contestants could meet the following objectives no matter what application scenarios they choose:

We encourage the contestants to improve their solutions and increase added value based on the following aspects:

(7) Submission requirements for the entries

A. Preliminary evaluation

B. Materials to be submitted for the second-round evaluation

(8) Competition dates

Registration for the competition starts on: June 10th, 2019

Deadline for submitting entries: September 30th, 2019

(9) Qualified contestants

Teachers and students of colleges and universities from home and abroad, scientific research institutions, design studios, individual designers, 3D printing related companies, etc.

We encourage and hope participating teams are formed by members of different professions. The organizing committee can also assist participating teams/persons to find members of appropriate professions or provide 3D printing relevant technical support (if needed).

(10) Evaluation standards

A. Standards for the preliminary evaluation

B. Standards for the second-round evaluation

(11) Competition evaluation process

A. Preliminary evaluation

Predominantly evaluating the solution. According to the evaluaion criteria of each competition, judges will make evaluations online and select outstanding entries for the second-round (final) evaluation.

B. Second-round (final) evaluation

Predominantly evaluating the 3D printed objects (it could be the whole object or part of it, i.e. an equal section in proportion to the objects, a large segment of it or its component modules). After entries for the second-round evaluation are selected in the initial evaluation, selected contestant teams of each of the competition units need to make a presentation of 10 minutes using the 3D printed products. Based on the evaluation standards for the second round, the evaluation panel, consisting of scientific research experts, industrial representatives and investment experts, would discuss and carry out appraisals, and then decide the first, second and third prize winners according to the following aspects: the 3D printed objects, test reports of professional assessment agencies (if any), and contestants’ performance in the Q&A session.
