Additive manufacturing (also called as 3D printing), based on the digital model, is a newly emerged manufacturing technology by piling materials layer by layer and make the physical material, which exerts a deep influence on traditional process, production line, factory model and mix of industrial chain. Additive manufacturing allows these parts to be more freely designed, bringing more possibilities for key technological breakthroughs and the improvement of performance metrics.

China has put additive manufacturing as a key to development in the Made in China 2050. In 2017, a total of 12 ministries and organizations including the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology jointly drafted and released the Operation Plan, requiring that by 2020, the annual sale of additive manufacturing shall overtake 20 billion RMB with over 30% growth per year.
This remains a big challenge, a significant opportunity to rethink everything. We need to truly reimagine our products, to think and innovate, reform factories, change the process of manufacturing and reshape the business model, making it possible the customized manufacturing at a large scale. It also incorporates the depth of processing, technology improvement and industrial upgrading; these efforts shall be guided by advanced productivity and way of production.
Under the development strategy of "Made In China 2025",Beijing Fengtai District People's Government attaches great importance to the additive manufacturing pulling strength of advanced manufacturing industry，to increase additve manufacturing leading scientific and technological innovation, based on the existing industries in the zone to introduce material manufacture, its efficient, parallel, such as, integrated features to the existing industries, and biological medical, aerospace industry, education, building is combined with such as depth, vigorously develop production, with the innovation of the ecological system and the balanced development of the industrial chain. On this basis, further response of twelve departments concerning on “The Additive Manufacturing Industry Development Action Plan (2017-2020) ", the industry development of new goals and new tasks, new initiatives, the joint Beijing science and technology commission, Beijing economic and information commission jointly held "2018 Addtive Manufacturing Global Innovation Competition", will be officially kicked off on August 2018.
"2018 Addtive Manufacturing Global Innovation Competition", focus on “The Additive Manufacturing Industry Development Action Plan (2017-2020) ",referred to in the key manufacturing areas such as education, medical treatment, culture creativity, innovation, aims to add material in the field of mining applied in these manufacturing (3D printing) new technologies, new processes, new equipment, new materials, new products, including: 1, Projects that enter the pilot test phase or have passed this phase and will be put into application, production, or integrated into formation of new products or processes; 2, Projects that may facilitate upgrades in traditional industries or contribute to developing technologies, products and projects of additive manufacturing; 3, Innovative technologies and research projects with future prospect; 4, Technical results to be released for the first time at international or domestic levell; 5, Development and application of 3D printing software; 6, Flexible manufacturing design and products of 3D printing; 7, Cutting-edge technologies, products and projects that integrate additive manufacturing technologies, aimed at mining additive manufacture in the field of application of actual results and important potential, dig a broader application scenarios, and thus increase material manufacturing technology in the application of the industry, promote the transformation of technological achievements, to improve the process of industrialization, perfecting the construction of the ecological system, link to the global market.
Outstanding projects selected from each competition region will enter the national finals. Selected projects will be evaluated by the Evaluation and Promotion Service Center for Scientific and Technological Achievements of the Institute of Electronic Science and Technology Information of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). Based on the “Provisional Measures for Pilot Evaluation of Scientific and Technological Achievements” [National Science and Technology Award [Code 2009] No. 63] and other laws and regulations, the center will organize renowned experts in the industry (within the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology) to form a professional jury for evaluation. Approved projects will be awarded the “Science and Technology Achievements Evaluation Report” and “Science and Technology Achievement Registration Certificate of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology”.The report and registration certificate can be used as an endorsement of boost local enterprises preferential policies apply to the local government for support.
The competition will link the southern, eastern, southwestern and northwestern regions of China creating a strong influential bloc for the additive manufacturing technology to expand to the entire country. The competition will conduct on-site evaluation and promotion of roadshows in four major professional sectors of cutting-edge technology and research innovation, both foreign and domestic, which will directly target application aspects, investors and the main representative parties of regional industrial groups to establish direct lines of communication.
The competition is not limited to core and cutting-edge technologies in the additive manufacturing field, but also encourages crossover technologies, products and projects that integrate additive manufacturing technologies to allow more industries to realize the advantages and value of additive manufacturing.
